Cool VOIP from your cell phone

I am planning to get a cell phone in near future. As I understand you can get internet with the basic plan for instant messaging and wap. I frequently call overseas by using skype or yahoo messanger with voice. Will I be able to use a smartphone to do the same thing but without a PC by using internet from the cell phone carrier.

If you are planning to use Skype Mobile you have to buy Windows Mobile smartphone as it is the only platform Skype supports at the moment. Hopefully we wont have to wait to long to get Symbian version also .

VoIP uses gprs or 3G or any other data connection carrier provides so you will have to be able to use "data transfer". I would suggest you to take "data plan" as you said you will be using Skype often... see what are the differences between regular and data plan. You would need at least 236KBs (EDGE) to use VoIP over your cell phone so pick wisely

Default VoIP Calls with Nokia E- & N-Series cell phones

WidgetBucks - Trend Watch - WidgetBucks.com
Just got my new Nokia N95 dual radio cell phone connected with my Airport Express wifi network at home yesterday.

Fun thing these dual radio cell phones. If you connect to a wifi, you can make cheap calls over the Internet with fabulous quality. And of course you have access to your phone book on the cell phone.

I use a service called Vyke (www.vyke.com), which not only let's you dial from your wifi cell phone (Vyke IP), but also regular java enabled cell phones (Vyke Mobile), and PC's. And the service doesn't stop with calls, they provide SMS from both cell phones and PC's.

After creating an account, all I had to do was to goto the Vyke IP page, enter my phonenumber and I got the settings by SMS. Click, install and off I went to make my first call. Ofcourse I forgot the country code, so I didn't get connected. Second attempt: It worked. Cristal clear.

I only spend 4cents per call now, even international ones. No minute price, just a 4cent initiation fee. Which is great since I have family and friends in Germany, US, Canada, UK, Switzerland and and and...

The rates for other destinations are low too, especially compared to that of your mobile phone provider and even your regular domestic phone company.
