Im looking into buying the Samsung BlackJack, and I have a few questions...

Will I need any additional services to use this phone?

I really only want this thing to listen to music and send mostly picture messages. Like the tmoble smartphones you need to get the internet package to really use the phone.

I currently have tmobile and im looking into buying a unlocked blackjack, and I have the unlimited messaging...would i still be able to send and recieve picture messages?

Its great phone and well worth the price. I got mine thru Cingular with a Media Max Plan which includes unlimited Data (MediaNet) and Cingular Video and 1000 txt Msgs.

You do need to get a data plan if you are going to access the internet or if you are using a program that needs to access the internet, like a Shape Services IM+ Messenger. You can send really short video or pictures via MMS with your txt msg plan, but you are limited to 295k file size with the Blackjack. You are better off getting some kind of data/Msg plan. You can really enjoy what the phone has to offer that way

As far as the media player on the blackjack, I really like it. Probably because I am very familiar with Windows Media Player. It syncs easily with my WMP on my PC for easy music transfers. I am just starting to explore the video transfer and play-back capabilites of the phone. So far I've been able to transfer small WMV files to my phone with great playback results, but so far nothing large like a movie yet. I don't know how the sound quality is yet, I haven't purchased the earphones for the phone yet.

You should get it with Cingular, because .. well.. Cingular is THE BEST ever ever ever ever.

If you wanna buy the phone as an upgrade, you will need to pay the upgrade fee (I think it's $18), you will need to pay $299.99 for the phone at the time of purchase (instead of $449.99, which is the retail price), you will need to buy the data package for $39.99 a month for two months (I know, this sucks, but you need to do this to get the rebate), and you will get the rebate (which, is $100). If you don't buy the data plan for TWO months, you don't get the rebate... so it's basically, you pay $279.99, which is misconstrued by most people, since the website and the store say $199.99... they don't tell you of the data plan, lol.

You can get it unlocked for .. idk how much, or you can just buy a NEW cingular phone (w/o contract) for $449.99.
