| WidgetBucks - Trend Watch - WidgetBucks.com Qtek 9600 Review Through our time with the Qtek 9600 we learned one thing. If you are looking for a phone that can do it all, and we do mean it all, you will want to think strongly about the Qtek 9600. It does have a lot of competition from other units, but when it comes down to it the Qtek 9600 stacks up against anything else that is out there. The first thing that we noticed when testing the Qtek 9600 is that it did not feel quite as sturdy as we had hoped. With a unit that has so many features, durability is usually a concerned. It is safe to say that over time the Qtek 9600 may give you some problems in this department; but do not let this deter you from giving the Qtek 9600. The main issue with durability comes from the sliding system that this unit uses. Over time, as the QWERTY keyboard is slid in and out of its slot, it can begin to loosen up. We did not get the feeling that it was going to break off, but it appears that this could happen over time. When looking at the Qtek 9600, before sliding anything, you will notice that the four way navigation button and seven other controls are located at the bottom of the large screen. This makes the placement very functional and easy to get along with. We never had a hard time finding what we were looking for thanks to the easy to understand controls. A neat feature of the Qtek 9600 can be found on the left side of the phone. A scroll wheel is included so that you can quickly move from area to area without having to mess with the buttons. This design is also implemented by other companies such as Sony and it has been very successful. It is safe to say that the scroll wheel will probably stick around for quite some time. Early on we noticed that the top of the Qtek 9600 did not have any controls on it. This struck us as weird at first, but it did not ever cause any problems. All of the controls are located at the bottom of the device and include: infrared port, battery lock, a microphone aperture, and a USB port. We plugged devices into every control and they all worked seamlessly as expected. One of the biggest drawbacks that we noticed is the placement of the stylus. Even though this should not be a deal breaker, we are not fans of the placement. The stylus can be accessed out of the bottom right hand side of the Qtek 9600. In most cases the stylus is on the top right hand side; this is the preferred method and the one that is used by most major companies. The right side also features the camera shutter. The camera itself is 2 megapixels and has a macro switch as well as a self portrait mirror and flash LED. Even though the camera on the Qtek 9600 is not the best in the industry it is fully functional and gets the job done. The Qtek 9600 has many top notch features as well as some durability and design concerns. It appears that this phone is either going to be hit or miss. If you are willing to take a slight risk, you should consider the Qtek 9600. The level of options that if offers is rivaled by few. Pros
